As the smell of the carne for the tamales fills the whole neighborhood, I am vexed and perplexed by a couple of things that have transpired early this week.
The "pink slime" meat has me crying for the poor children who will be subjected to this poison after schools have been given the option to purchase it for the children's school lunches. I am appalled at the thought of children in our country being fed ammonium hydroxide. The other thing that is bugging me is bullying. I am so broken-hearted for the families suffering loss because their loved one was bullied. My girlfriend calls me because a 13 year old has killed herself, a senseless tragedy. This beautiful child who "is" no longer because she felt she had no way out. How do other kids learn to make another child feel this way? We as parents, and all parents everywhere, should never voice opinions which reflect hatred, bitterness, or CONDESCENSION in front of our kids. These attitudes are translated into our children because the most teaching that sticks is the example we lead and live. Parents teach kids hate, intolerance and these other attitudes that lead to bullying. This must stop. These young lives must stop ending because they have been bullied. Here in California for the past month we have been hearing of a 13 year old girl and an eleven year old girl who died brutally at the hands of bullies. ( http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2012/03/07/vigil-held-for-13-year-old-found-dead-at-rosemont-park/ ) ( http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2012/02/joanna_ramos_11_year_old_girl_fight_dies_long_beach.php ) BULLYING MUST END. Please let's teach our kids tolerance, patience, respect for people and their things and a basic love for other human beings.
